MIDDLE SCHOOL LEARNING CENTERS

The Learning Centers at T.R. Pollicita Middle School and at Robertson Intermediate School offers a toolkit for underperforming students – tutors, mentors, healthy food, and regular exercise.

Tutors are former Jefferson High School students attending local colleges and current advanced placement or honors students from Jefferson High School.  They offer one-on-one help and serve as role models to the younger students.

Students get healthy sandwiches, fruits and drinks every day at no charge.

CEI collaborates with San Francisco State University, Department Kinesiology, and designs custom physical fitness programs for both schools.  Students are tested for their strength, flexibility, endurance and body composition.  Professors and graduate students at San Francisco State use the results to develop individualized fitness regimens for each middle school participant.

Students who engage in regular physical activity tend to feel better about themselves.  They are more attentive and engaged at school.  They demonstrate better behavior and better grades.
