AFTER
SCHOOL SAFETY AND
ENRICHMENT
FOR TEENS (ASSETs)
The 21st Century After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs)
Program keeps our young people off the streets. It gives them
something to do after school while providing a healthy snack.
It might be help in finding a job through a program offered by the
Daly City Youth Health Center. It might be instruction in break-dancing,
writing lyrics or being a DJ. It could be ping pong or chess.
Or
just healthy snacks, along with music and conversation with friends. It’s
not unusual to hear young people singing together in the Jefferson
cafeteria.
ASSETs serves more than 200 young people after school on
the Jefferson campus. The
program offers an alternative to risky, unsupervised activities off
campus. CEI
leads a coalition of public and private agencies, including Daly City
Parks and Recreation, the Daly City Youth Health Center, and Youth
and Family Enrichment Services.
ASSETs is funded by a five-year grant
from the California Department of Education.
